नेपाल १ मा महासंघको धर्ना

आन्दोलनरत नेपाल १ टेलिभिजनका सञ्चारकर्मी तथा कर्मचारीको मागप्रति ऐक्यबद्धता जनाउँदै नेपाल पत्रकार महासंघले आज टेलिभिजन कार्यालयमा भर्ना दिने भएको छ।

महासंघले अपरान्ह एक घण्टा जमलस्थित नेपाल १ को कार्यालयमा धर्ना दिन लागेको महासचिव विष्णु निष्ठुरीले जनाएका छन्। हिजोबाट दुइ जना सञ्चारकर्मीले आमरण अनसन शुरु गरेपछि महासंघले उक्त निर्णय गरेको हो।

यसैबीच, नेपाल १ को मुख्यालय भारतको नयाँदिल्लीमा कार्यरत कर्मचारीले पनि नेपालका कर्मचारीले गरेको आन्दोलनप्रति समर्थन जनाएका छन्। त्यहाँ काम गरिरहेका सम्पूर्ण कर्मचारी तथा सञ्चाकर्मीले विज्ञप्ति मार्फत ऐक्यवद्धता जनाएका छन्।

यता, आमरण अनसन बसेका सञ्चारकर्मीलाई आज नेपाली कांग्रेसका महामन्त्री कुलबहादुर गुरुङको नेतृत्वमा गएको टोलीले भेटघाट गरेको छ। त्यस्तै भारतीय कम्युनिष्ट पार्टी मार्क्सवादीका नेता सीताराम येचुरीले पनि आन्दोलनप्रति ऐक्यबद्धता जनाएका छन्।

Journalist attacked

Nepal Yuvraj Adhikary, a local correspondent of Radio Nepal , was attacked by the cadres of Maoist aligned Young Communist League (YCL) on 2 May at Kusumba market of Bardiya, mid-western district of Nepal.

Adhikary had reached Kusumba market to collect news about the clash between the security forces and a group of refugees and freed bonded laborers led by YCL. The clash had erupted between a group of armed police force that was deployed at the market for the border security and the group led by YCL. While Adhikary was reporting the news, the YCL cadres hurled stones at him and attacked him with sticks.

They even chased him for about 500 meters. He then ran and locked himself inside a bathroom of a neighbor and thus saved himself. The YCL cadres then reached his home, located near the market, and broke the windowpanes of his house. Adhikary had received threats from the YCL cadres in the past for writing news about them.

According to Yuvraj Shrestha, president of FNJ Bardiya branch, Adhikary has been receiving threats through telephone in the name of YCL cadres saying that they can abduct or kill him anytime.

Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the incident and has demanded the concerned party to take action against the guilty and provide proper compensation to the victim.

Journalist captured and attacked

Nepal Lokshari Kuwar editor/publisher of Morning Bell daily was captured and attacked by a group of indecorous people on 2 May at Dhangadi of Kailali, a far western district of Nepal.

According to Birendra Rawal, president of Press Chautrai Nepal , three hooligans Ganesh Chand, Lalit Kuwar and Prem Kalel beat him brutally. During the attack, he received serious wound on his head, neck and two of his teeth are broken. He is being treated at Seti Regional Hospital .

Rawal said that the investigation of the incident is underway. He also informed that journalist Kuwar might have been attacked as he had disseminated the news related to timber smuggling, prostitution in the area and illegal export/import of goods from the Indian border. Prem Kalel, one of the indecorous person was arrested and is under the custody of ward police.

Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the incident and has urged the government to find and punish the guilty. The Federation has also urged the government to provide safety and security to the journalists.
